May 4, 2022 – Gildan Activewear Inc. (GIL TSX and the NYSE) has announced its results for the quarter that ended April 3, 2022. Glenn J. Chamandy (Gildan’s president and CEO) said that record results and a strong start for 2022 are a result of Gildan’s Sustainable Growth strategy. \”Our team’s clear focus on capacity driven growth, innovation and ESG, leveraging our world class, vertically-integrated manufacturing platform, is putting us in a strong position to service customer demand while effectively managing inflationary cost pressures.\”
The first quarter ended April 3, 2022 saw sales totaling $775 million. This includes activewear sales of $667million, an increase of 38%, and sales in the hosiery category of $108million, which was up 3% from last year. Volume growth, net selling price increases and favorable product-mix drove the activewear sales rise. Volume growth in activewear was due to strong demand in North America, especially in the distributor channel. However, lower international shipments were partly due to continuing weakness in Europe or Asia.
